The FCC’s Open Internet Rules (net neutrality rules) are extremely important to me. I urge you to protect them. I don’t want ISPs to have the power to block websites, slow them down, give some sites an advantage over others, or split the Internet into “fast lanes” for companies that pay and “slow lanes” for the rest.
Different boot configurations timed on my PC. The SD Card Reader is a Panasonic BN-SDCMAB and it slows down the boot process very much. RAM testing also slows down boot time, but Compatibility Support Module off does not help much.

I built this system for Christmas. I knew broadwell-e was right around the corner but I wasn’t sure how much it would OC and I wanted a new PC for christmas. So far it is all good, the new Broadwell-E i7-6950X is very expensive and doesn’t overclock as well as i7-5960X.
Here I build a Mini-ITX PC to my mum. It will replace a Shuttle XPC with a Pentium D and 1GB memory. My goal was to make it very pretty, and very high quality. That is, a solid feel, competely quiet and fast. Like an Apple product or a Microsoft Surface RT. There are so many cheap and low quality PCs out there. So I spent months scouring the internet for a good quality Mini-ITX case.
I bought a Seagate Cheetah 600GB ST3600057SS SAS hard drive and it has a problem with file transfers. I have tested it on three different PCs and three different SAS Controllers. Transfer rate with a Seagate Cheetah 15.7k and a WD VelociRaptor 600GB is initially fast, 80-100MB/s, but later it slows down to 10MB/s and stays there.
I bought a cheap media player with HDMI output capability, and it works perfectly with the Auzentech X-Fi HomeTheater HD. Without you would have to provide the dummy signal from you graphics card, and that meant having an emtpy screen area your mouse could dissapear to. Since the hdmi signal is always on, this solution has the added benefit that you hear the Windows startup and logon sounds. I have not yet tested DTS, DD or DTS Master HD.
Warning: this media player does not support HDCP so you won’t be able to pass-through DTS-MA or DD TrueHD, but you can decode the audio with the player and send uncompressed 8 channel PCM through. Continue reading →
