I'll paint you a rainbow to hang on the wall,
to brighten your heart when the grey shadows fall.
On a canvas of joy outlasting the years,
with a soft brush of sweetness to dry all your tears.
I'll paint you a rainbow with colors of smiles
That glow with sincerity over the miles.
On a palette of words I will tenderly blend
Tones into treasures of sunlight and wind.
I'll paint you a rainbow that reaches so wide,
Your sights and your sorrows will vanish inside,
And deep in the center of each different hue,
A memory fashioned especially for you.
So lift up your eyes, for suspended above,
A rainbow designed by the fingers of love...

On This Day...

*****************
Mend a quarrel. Search out a forgotten friend. Dismiss
suspicions, and replace them with trust. Write a love letter. Share some treasure.

Give a soft answer. Encourage youth.

Manifest your loyalty in a word or deed. Keep a promise.
Find the time. Forego a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen.
Apologize if you were wrong. Try to understand.

Flout envy.
Examine your demands on others.

Think first of someone else.
Appreciate, be kind, be gentle. Laugh a little more.

Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice.
Decry complacency. Express your gratitude.

Worship your God.

Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth.

Speak your love.

Speak it again.

Speak it still again.

Speak it still once again.

~Adapted from a letter by Gary McAuley~

There are many things in life that will catch your eye,

but only a few that will catch your heart ---

pursue those.

ONE HEART

Among your small possessions
In a place all by itself
Is a gift I one time gave you
One heart upon your shelf

This gift takes little space up
And it's never in the way
I'd guess you never notice it
As you go about your day

You never have to move it
It goes every where you are
Just hovers in the background
But always not too far

But if you need some comfort
When things are not quite right
Take out the heart I gave you
It'll get you through the night

No matter where life's road leads
If fortune's promise proves untrue
One thing you'll take beyond this life's

The heart I gave to you.

A FIRST GRADE TEACHER collected old, well known proverbs. She gave
each child in her class the first half of a proverb, and had them
come up with the rest.

As you shall make your bed so shall you...............mess it up.
Better be safe than...........................punch a 5th grader.
Strike while the ...................................bug is close.
It's always darkest before.................daylight savings time.
You can lead a horse to water but............................how?
Don't bite the hand that.............................looks dirty.
A miss is as good as a........................................Mr.
You can't teach an old dog new..............................math.
If you lie down with the dogs, you'll.......stink in the morning.
The pen is mightier than the................................pigs.
An idle mind is............................the best way to relax.
Where there's smoke, there's...........................pollution.
Happy the bride who........................gets all the presents.
A penny saved is........................................not much.
Two's company, three's............................the musketeers.
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you,cry and......you have
to blow your nose.
Children should be seen and not..............spanked or grounded.
When the blind leadeth the blind..............get out of the way.

"All I really need to know about how to live and what to do

and how to be

I learned in kindergarten.

Share everything.

Play fair.

Don't hit people.

Put things back where you found them.

Clean up your own mess.

Don't take things that aren't yours.

Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.

Wash your hands before you eat.

Flush.

Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.

Live a balanced life---learn some and think some

and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

Take a nap every afternoon.

When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.

Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup---they all die.

So do we.

And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned---the biggest word of all---

LOOK."

I believe the imagination is stronger than knowledge.

That myth is more potent than history.

That dreams are more powerful than facts.

~Robert Fulghum~

That hope always triumphs over experience.

That laughter is the only cure for grief.

And I believe that love is stronger than death.

IF A DOG WERE YOUR TEACHER

You would learn things like

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face

to be pure ecstasy

When it' is in your best interest

practice obedience

Let others know when they've invaded your territory

Take naps and stretch before rising

Run romp and play daily

Thrive on attention and let people touch you

Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do

On warm days stop to lie on your back on the grass

On hot days drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree

When you're happy dance around and wag your entire body

No matter how often you're scolded

don't buy into the guilt thing and pout

run right back and make friends

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm

Stop when you have had enough

Be loyal

Never pretend to be something you re not

If what you want lies buried

dig until you find it

When someone is having a bad day

be silent .....

...sit close by.

...and nuzz;le them gently

....

Things seem to turn out best for those people
who can make the best out of the way things turn out.

"Love and Friendship"

I love you, not only for what you are,

But for what I am when I am with you.

I love you, not only for what

You have made of yourself,

But for what you are making of me.

I love you for the part of me

That you bring out;

I love you for putting your hand

Into my heaped-up heart

And passing over all the foolish, weak things

That you can't help dimly seeing there,

And for drawing out into the light

All the beautiful belongings

That no one else had looked

Quite far enough to find.

I love you because you have done

More than any creed

Could have done to make me good,

And more than any fate

Could have done to make me happy.

You have done it without a touch,

Without a word, without a sign.

You have done it by being yourself.

Perhaps that is what

Being a friend means

After all.

"Just Rain"

At any given day the sun pours love
Unless the clouds are tricked from hiding in their special place
Now the clouds have concealed what was once evident
At this moment in time the huge puffs hold more than unseen light
The giant white sky cotton also can expose a secret it keeps
And is glorified with millions of rainbows that shine colors
To feed our body and mind
This gift of nourishment, can now be cherished for a fleeting moment
With a dance called rain, the truth of beauty is spread
As it touches all that is within its path

Frank E. Schmitt

There are little eyes upon you
and they're watching night and day.
There are little ears that quickly
take in every word you say.

There are little hands all eager
to do anything you do;

And little children dreaming
of the day they'll be like you.

You're the little children's idol,
you're the wisest of the wise.

In their little minds about you
no suspicions ever rise.

They believe in you devoutly,
hold all you say and do;
they will say and do, in your way
when they're grown up just like you.

There's a wide-eyed little student
who believes you're always right;
and their eyes are always opened,
and they watch you day and night.

You are setting an example
every day in all you do;
For the little child who's waiting
to grow up to be like you.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER
by Erma Bombeck

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was
stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and
worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in
the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble
about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a
summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before
it melted in storage.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried
about grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television -
and more while watching life.

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending
the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the
day.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical,
wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have
cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside
me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said,
"Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."

There would have been more "I love yous".. more "I'm sorrys"...
but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every
minute...look at it and really see it... live it...and never give it
back.

....that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.

So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one.

Stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until your song comes on, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Work like you don't need money,

Love like you've never been hurt,

And dance like no one's watching.

There's just something about rainbows that conjures up

images of hope, dreams, wishes and that proverbial

pot of gold that's waiting at the end !

Perhaps the spectacle of all that color in the midst of a storm

can so unexpectedly take our breath away and cause us to

realize that even in adverse situations there can lie a beauty...an oasis of hope, promise or a feeling of well-being.

Who's to say that the pot of gold can't be in forms even more beneficial to us than mere money ?

The paper and coins so sought after by man have never once held the power

to restore one's soul....or soothe one's heart...or ease a burdened thought...or weave the fabric of

immeasurable love!

Those are the true gifts we find along the paths we follow....

a happy heart.....a peaceful soul.....a caring nature....

an understanding mind....a compassionate thought....a fulfilling journey....

and a meaningful love

that transcends not only this life, but Time itself !

My Friend, I wish you rainbows in the midst of all your storms,

and rest assured that the pot of gold we seek at its end,

can be found safely lodging within our very selves !!!
