Okay,  I have tried to read all 21 pages of this thread and it seems that the most common solution is to disable the Windows Search Index.  I have also had problems with extracting files taking much longer than XP ever did.  Even small 10mb files can take 2-3 minutes.  I use both winrar and winzip, both experiance the problems intermidently.  Sometimes its slow then other time when extracting a 4gb file, it only takes 2-3minutes and other times 15-20 minutes.  I will try some of the suggestions to see if any help.

 

I will report back if anything like the hotfix and search index fixes work.
